Private eye Mike Church (Kenneth Branagh) takes on the case of a mysterious amnesiac found on the grounds of the orphanage he grew up in. Church dubs her Grace (Emma Thompson) and through hypnotic regression courtesy of a strange antiques dealer (Derek Jacobi) who answers Church's ad in the paper, the pair begin to believe that they are the reincarnations of Roman and Margaret Strauss.
